Saturday’s flow of inspiration

Last Saturday brought two more curious and willing artists, ready to dive into their creative flow. It was wonderful to be there with them as we started with some spontaneous free flow and then brought that into the gel plate possibilities.

And so many possibilities were explored starting with background textures and then moving into creating shapes and layers with masks and stencils. This brought a lot of exploration especially with layering.

And it was so hard to stop, of course! I really look forward to seeing what else comes from these two very creative and inquisitive people.

You’ll see their work below starting with the free flow pieces and then moving to the gel plate experimentations. Enjoy!

Friday and the time for letting loose

Meeting another participant new to the get plate was a delight as we experimented through the afternoon. She already knew the art of play!

We started with the loosening up, intentional mess making stage. Grabbing crayons and paint, drawing and playing with colors on cheap craft paper with some jazz in the background got us going.

Once the flow was clearly established it was time to start playing with the gel plate. Rolling out paint, creating texture, using stencils and layering all brought out the huge possibilities of the gel plate. See the way fun results below!

Their obvious enthusiasm

I love this photo. We’d just finished up, forcing ourselves to stop making new prints, getting the last bunch up on the wall and this is what it felt like. Yay!!!

Yesterday’s creative play / gel plate 1 workshop

Saturday’s playful and energetic workshop brought lots of surprises for all with two eager and willing participants. They were very ready to go all out and dive into the play aspect of getting into their creative spark. We all had fun!

After relaxing and becoming acquainted, we began by following the prompt of playing with the art supplies in front of us; paint, crayons, markers, water and rags, scrapers and pencils all brought to cheap craft paper. Not time for the gel plates just yet, just time to move and get into the flow.

With smooth, flowing music in the background we were soon up on our feet getting into the feel of the materials in our hands and the no mind relief of no plans just response. Way fun! We kept that going for a while.

Then it was time for the gel plates. We explored how the paint felt as we rolled it out on the plates, what could happen creating texture with tools and materials leaving imprints in the paint, getting it ready for mono printing. We then moved to playing with stencils, some store bought, some handmade and some simply torn paper.

These two creatives got a great feel for how the process keeps moving and changing with each pull, with each layer. The results were so rich and filled with many surprises and they were so into it!!!

Their work follows below. Enjoy!
